The Church of our Mother in County Fermanagh, Irelandr
Welcome To Knockninny Parish
St. Ninnidh is regarded as one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland. He is associated with shores of Lough Erne and particularly the island of Inishmacsaint and the parish ofKnockninny (derived from the Irish: Cnoc Ninnidh, meaning The Hill of Ninnidh).
Ninnidh was born in County Donegal, a grandson ofLaoghaire, the High King of Ireland. He was educated underSt. Finian at Clonard. In 530 AD Ninnidh held a 40-day fast on Knockninny Hill, during the period of Lent.
When dying, St. Brigid was attended to by Ninnidh, who afterwards became known as “Ninnidh of the clean hand” because he supposedly had his right hand encased with a metal covering to prevent it being defiled after administering the last rites to Ireland’s patroness.
St. Ninnidh’s feast day is the 18th of January. St. Ninnidh’s well is situated at Knockninny Quay on the shores of Upper Lough Erne and is reputed to have curative properties for eye ailments. In William Henry‘s Upper Lough Erne in 1739 the well was described as a chief curiosity, “being a plentiful foundation of pure water, having a clearance and coolness scarce to be met with. It was at that time a popular spot for boatspeople to retire to for their entertainments for which and around it are arranged benches of sod and over it a shade of aquatic trees”.
St. Ninnidh’s bell, traditionally presented to Ninnidh by St. Senach of Derrybrusk, was kept in Knockninny parish in the 17th century. It was at Castle Caldwell, County Fermanagh until 1877, when it was sold at auction to Robert Day of Cork (who sketched the drawing to right). When Day’s collection was sold in 1913, this bell was not part of the sale. Although for some time it was identified with a bell in the National Museum of Edinburgh (probably St. Ninian’s Bell, formerly from the collection of John Bell), the location of St. Ninnidh’s Bell is presently unknown.

The young lady from County Fermanagh. Ireland
The Irish lady at the Irish monument in Boston at Washington and Milk streets. Actually in front of Borders Book store that does not exist any more.
Mom is wearing her summer clothes, white shoes, white pocket book, white necklace as well as a nice Summer dress. She always looked ver nice and took pride on how she would be dress.
You have seen a picture of her as a young girl at the age of 16 on the ship going to Boston from Liverpool England.
The oldest child and daughter of the Jackson Family. A farm girl from Coragh, County Fermanagh, Ireland. She would be the oldest of 13 children.
The sarifice that her parents made to send her to America which was thanks toher uncle, the step brother of her Father Patrick Jackson. Who was living in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The education of our Mother was limited because she was helping her Father on the farm and also her Mother who had other children, Margaret, Bernard etc.
But her education in being a strong person in her Catholic Faith was cultivated by her parents. In the evening they would say the rosary together and afterwards she would have a cup of tea. Her Father would wake her up to join them in prayer. Mom was very close to her Father and enjoyed helping him on the farm and the hard work of gathering potatoes etc.
This was her life, her brothers and sisters were very important to her. And alwas even living in the United States. Even though she wanted to become a religious Sister probably due to her Mother having a brother who was a Catholic Bishop in County Cavan. But God had other plans for her to become our Mother. Having her own children, Joanne, Maureen, Everett, Bernardine and of course me. Each one of us were very important to her. Her own children and her own family.. Dad sent her back to Ireland to see her Mother and fanily members. And also went to Newfoundland to see her sister Sadie. And then with me to London to see her sister Maggie and also Elizabeth and Kathleen.
Our Mother was shy put her emphasis and concern in life was her Family. And as the family grew and seeing her grandchildren brought more joy to her and of course to our Father.
As i mentioned she had limited education due to her responsibilities in her early childhood. But she would sit with us her children and learn a lot more through us. And she would encourage us to study and if we did well she would treat us to ice cream at the end of the school year in erly June..

The sur name of Dolphin
Where did the Irish Dolphin family come from? Where did the various branches of the family go to?
The surname is derived from the old Norse personal names Dufanan Dolgfinnr. Many Scandinavian personal names were left in the British Isles as a legacy of the Viking raids which plagued the coastal regions of Brit fro the 8th to the 10th centuries and many of these eventually became surnames in Gaelic, the name was Dolfin.
It was found during an investigation of the origins of the name Dolphin that Church officials and medieval scribes often spelled the name as it sounded. For this reason that their are many spelling variations. Dolphin has existed in various shades, Dolphin, Dolfin, Dalphin, Daulphin, Daulphine, Dolphine, Dolfine and many more.
In the 1840's, Ireland experience a mass exodus to North America de to the Great Potato Famine. These families wanted to escape hunger and disease.
Richard Dolphin settled in Virginia in 1618.
Christopher Dolphin who arrived in Maryland in 1657.
More research would have to be done on the name of John Francis Dolphin in Massachusetts. It would be very interesting to know our early history of the Dolphin family

Dolphins are marine mammals closely related to whales and porpoises. There are almost forty species of dolphin in 17 genera. They vary in size from 1.2 m (4 ft) and 40 kg (90 lb) (Maui's dolphin), up to 9.5 m (30 ft) and 10 tonnes (9.8 long tons; 11 short tons) (the orca or killer whale). They are found worldwide, mostly in the shallower seas of the continental shelves, and are carnivores, eating mostly fish and squid. The familyDelphinidae is the largest in the Cetacean order, and evolved relatively recently, about ten million years ago, during the Miocene. Dolphins are among the most intelligent animals, and their often friendly appearance, an artifact of the "smile" of their mouthline, and seemingly playful attitude have made them very popular in human culture.

I have only a couple of times in my life have seen Dolphins in the ocean waters. But they are so beautiful to see and fr this reason I am thinking of this creation by God.

"Put on a FUNNY FACE"
This is my little puppet "key key" that I used when I was visiting children in the hospital in Curico , Chile. At one timeI put on some clown make up but it didn't work well because it would scared the children The red nose was bad enough because they would try to take off the red nose from my nose.
It reminded me when I was in North Quincy High School and I took some art classes. The teacher was polish and I guess I did a lot of fooling around in the classroom and she wouls called me "funny Face".
So I was thinking about this today when I was trying to find out what had happened to my "Kindle Fire", I had no books or anything on my kindle. This was because I was hacked on Yahoo. com which took all my -mail addresses away and interfere in my kindle fire as well which was not funny. But now it is all ok now.

J. Francis Dolphin, Hno. Francisco Dolphin, M.M.
This is a photo of me when I was in the Maryknoll Brothers Novitiate in Brookline, Massachusetts. It s now the Dexter School for boys. I entered the Novitiate when I was 20 years old.
This would be in 1957.
My Baptismal name is John Francis Dolphin, 3rd. I am named after my Father and Grandfather.
To my knowledge, my first name was never used and this would be true for my Father. I remember my Mother calling my father Francis.
When I registered at St Mark's school in Dorchester with my Father. Sister Mary Lawrence was taking the information. Looking at my baptismal certificate, she saw John and of course called me Johnny, Naturally my Father corrected her and told her my name was Francis. So John was never used. I do not know what was the reason behind it.
My religious name was Brother Hugh, named after a saint in Grenoble, France. However I went back to my original name in South America, because they want your real name and not religious name for legal purposes.
So the majority went back to our baptismal name. So Francis for me was St. Francis Xavier who was the Jesuit saint to Asia. But here in Latin America, the Saint is St. Francis of Assisi The founder of the Franciscans. Mom had devotion to St. Francis Xavier and the novena was in March at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy, Massachusetts.
So here in Bolivia as well a in Chile, I have been called Hermano Francisco. Brother Francis.

A dream come true for Mom and Dad in having finally their own home on 64 Walnut, Street in North Quincy. It was a dead end street as all the streets were in this area because of the Neponset River that flowed near by. We also went swimming in the near by river and Dad had a boat with a motor to go out in the river for a short ride.
The house had plenty of land around it and it was a joy for Mom to plant flowers and other shrubs. It was her pride and joy. And the chore was painting the house from time to time.
The house had three bedrooms on the second floor, and on the first floor was the dining room, living room, kitchen, bathroom and a sun porch that Dad would use for fixing tvs and Mom would have her plants,

Actually the distance from Dorchester to North Quincy was not that far away. It was just across the Neponset River and as I think of it a walking distance from our home on Tenpleton Street. Quincy actually was the beginning of the South Shore that would go further down South to Plymouth and on wards to Cape Cod.

St. Mark's Curch and parish in Dorchester, Massachusetts
It is probably after the death of John Francis Dolphin in 1938 that Dad had decided to move to Boston. He was to be working for the greyhound buses on air conditioning in South Boston. They found an apartment on 70 Templeton Street in Dorchester actually the ashmont section of Dorchester which h was the beginning of the subway system to downtown Boston.
The parish was St. Mark's on Dorchester Avenue. The church had an elementary school with grades from one to eight. The school was divided with boys on one side and girls on the other side. The Sisters were Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The parish was mostly Irish but other nationalities such as polish, Italian etc. In front of the church across the street was a bakery, Mom would like to buy cup cakes etc.
The clergy in the Church were Irish. There were a lot of activities such as the boy's choir that I belonged too and also the Boy scouts.

Childhood[edit]
She was born on 12 July 1751, at Cuvilly, Picardy, Beauvais, Oise, France, the sixth of seven children of Jean-François Billiart ` and Marie-Louise-Antoinette (née Debraine). By the age of seven, she knew the catechism by heart, and used to gather her companions around her to hear her recite it and to explain it to them. Her education was confined to the rudiments obtained at the village school kept by her uncle, Thibault Guilbiert. In spiritual things her progress was so rapid that the parish priest, Father Dangicourt, allowed her to make her First Communion and to be confirmed aged 9. She took a vow of chastity five years later. She was held in very high esteem for her virtue and piety, and was commonly called, "the saint of Cuvilly". When twenty-two years old, a nervous shock, occasioned by a pistol-shot fired at her father by an unknown enemy, brought on a paralysis of the lower limbs. Within a few years she was confined to her bed, and remained incapacitated for 22 years. During this time, when she received Holy Communion daily, Julie exercised an uncommon gift of prayer, spending four or five hours a day in contemplation. The rest of her time was occupied in making linens and laces for the altar and in catechizing the village children whom she gathered around her bed, giving special attention to those who were preparing for their First Communion.
Amiens and Viscountess[edit]
At Amiens, where Billiart took refuge with Countess Baudoin during the French Revolution, she met Françoise, Viscountess of Gizaincourt, who became her co-laborer in the work as yet unknown to either of them. The Viscountess Blin de Bourdon was 38 years old when she met Julie, and had spent her youth in piety and good works. She had been imprisoned with all of her family during the Reign of Terror, and had escaped death only by the fall of Robespierre. A small company of friends of the viscountess (young and high-born ladies) was formed around the couch of "the saint". Billiart taught them how to lead an interior life, while they devoted themselves generously to the causes of God and the poor. Though they attempted all the exercises of an active community life, some of the elements of stability were wanting, and these first disciples dropped off until only the Viscountess remained.Institute of the Sisters of Notre Dame[edit]
In 1803, in obedience to Father Varin, superior of the Fathers of the Faith, and under the auspices of the Bishop of Amiens, the foundation was laid of the Institute of the Sisters of Notre Dame, a society which had for its primary object the salvation of poor children. Several young persons offered themselves to assist the two superiors, Julie and Françoise. The first pupils were eight orphans. On the feast of the Sacred Heart, 1 June 1804, Mother Julie, after a novena made in obedience to her confessor, was cured of paralysis. The first vows of religion were made on 15 October 1804 by Billiart, Blin de Bourdon, Victoire Leleu and Justine Garson, and their family names were changed to names of saints. They proposed for their lifework the Christian education of girls, and the training of religious teachers who should go wherever their services were asked for. Father Varin gave the community a provisional rule by way of probation, which was so far-sighted that its essentials have never been changed. In view of the extension of the institute, he would have it governed by a superior-general, charged with visiting the houses, nominating the local superiors, corresponding with the members dispersed in the different convents, and assigning the revenues of the society.
The characteristic devotions of the Sisters of Notre Dame were established by the foundress from the beginning. She was original in doing away with the time-honored distinction between choir sisters and lay sisters, but this perfect equality of rank did not prevent her from putting each sister to the work for which her capacity and education fitted her. She attached great importance to the formation of the sisters destined for the schools, and in this she was ably assisted by Mother St. Joseph (Françoise Blin de Bourdon), who had herself received an excellent education.
When the congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame was approved by an imperial decree dated 19 June 1806, it numbered 30 members, In that and the following years, foundations were made in various towns of France and Belgium, the most important being those at Ghent and Namur; Mother St. Joseph was the first superior of the latter house.
In the absence of Father Varin from that city, the confessor of the community, the Abbé de Sambucy de St. Estève, a man of superior intelligence and attainments but enterprising and injudicious, endeavored to change the rule and fundamental constitutions of the new congregation so as to bring it why into harmony with the ancient monastic orders. He so far influenced the Bishop, Msgr. Demandolx, that Mother Julie had soon no alternative but to leave the Diocese of Amiens, relying upon the goodwill of Msgr. Pisani de la Gaude, bishop of Namur, who had invited her to make his episcopal city the center of her congregation, should a change become necessary.
In leaving Amiens, Mother Julie laid the case before all her subjects and told them they were perfectly free to remain or to follow her. All but two chose to go with her, and thus, in the mid-winter of 1809, the convent of Namur became the motherhouse of the institute and is so still. Msgr. Demandolx, soon undeceived, made all the amends in his power, entreating Mother Julie to return to Amiens and rebuild her institute. She returned, but after a vain struggle to find subjects or revenues, went back to Namur.
Later life, death and canonization[edit]
The seven years of life that remained to her were spent in forming her daughters to solid piety and the interior spirit, of which she was herself the model. Msgr. De Broglie, the bishop of Ghent, said of her that she saved more souls by her inner life of union with God than by her outward apostolate. In the space of twelve years (1804–1816) Mother Julie founded fifteen convents, made one hundred and twenty journeys, many of them long and toilsome, and carried on a close correspondence with her spiritual daughters. Hundreds of these letters are preserved in the motherhouse. In 1815 Belgium was the battlefield of the Napoleonic wars, and the mother-general suffered great anxiety, as several of her convents were in the path of the armies, but they escaped injury. In January 1816, she took ill.She died on 8 April 1816, at the motherhouse of her institute, Namur, Belgium, aged 64.

At the Beach on a hot Summer Day
This is a photo of me when I was a lot younger of course at the beach which could be Nantasket beach or at the beach in Marshfield where the Arena family had a cottage. I enjoyed swimming very much and when I was in the Bot Scouts, I took a course in becoming a life guard.
However I had the experience of being caught in a rip tide or a change in the ocean current. I was being pulled out to sea and my sister Bernardine was aware of this and called another person to grab me and pull me in from the changing tide.

A very young girl by the name of Mary Anne Jackson is standing behind the five older women on the ship "Baltic" going to Boston Massachusetts in 1929. She is only 16 years old, the oldest daughter of her young family. She is from Derrylin, in County Fermanagh, Ireland.
She is the first of 13 children. Her Father is Patrick Jackson and Mother Kathleen.

Francis (Latin: Franciscus, Spanish: Francisco, Italian: Francesco) born as Jorge Mario Bergoglio;[b] born 17 December 1936) is the 266th and current pope of the Catholic Church,[2] a position also holding the roles of Sovereign of Vatican City and the Bishop of Rome.
Born in Buenos Aires as the son of Italian parents, Bergoglio worked briefly as a chemical technician before entering seminary. He was ordained a priest in 1969. From 1973 to 1979 he was Argentina's Provincial superior of the Society of Jesus, became Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998, and cardinal in 2001. Following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, on 13 March 2013 the papal conclave elected Bergoglio, who chose the papal name Francis in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi. Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first pope from the Americas, and the first from the Southern Hemisphere. [3]
Throughout his life, both as an individual and a religious leader, he has been noted for his humility, his concern for the poor, and his commitment to dialogue as a way to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths.[4][5][6] Since his election to the papacy, he has displayed a simpler and less formal approach to the office, choosing to reside in the Vatican guesthouse rather than the papal residence.
In recent months we have had a change in Popes due to the sudden retirement of Pope Benedict XVI for health reasons.
For this reason that I share with you this brief biography of this new Pope who comes from Latin America and is from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is the first Pope that is from a religious community, in this case from the Jesuits. He is a very humble person and deeply concern about the poor and forgotten people in this world of ours today.
